Experience Is a Beginning, Not a Finish Line

· Beata Monika Schäfer

A birthday can invite us to count what has passed. I prefer to ask what might still begin.

Experience has given me perspective: on people, on business, and on the difference between an impressive promise and something that can actually work. It has also shown me how much I still do not know.

That is a good place to be.

There is a particular freedom in no longer needing to have every answer. We can draw on what we have learned and still ask a basic question. We can recognise a familiar pattern and leave room for a different explanation. We can begin again without pretending that everything before it was wasted.

In professional life, experience is useful when it makes us more attentive, not more certain. A new market, a new partnership or a new team deserves to be understood on its own terms. Yesterday's success can be a reference. It cannot do today's listening for us.

I want the next chapter to hold both: the confidence to contribute and the curiosity to be surprised. Meaningful work, good conversations, time outdoors with Cooper, and space for ideas that have not yet found their shape.

Not every beginning needs to be dramatic. Sometimes it is one conversation we finally make time for, one skill we decide to explore, or one small step towards a direction that feels right.

Experience is a beginning, not a finish line.

I build trust before I build business.
