At Christmas, we put thought into what we can give.
Sometimes the most meaningful gift is the time and attention we bring with us.
I think of my mother and father, my sister, my goddaughter, my husband, and the friends who have become part of my life. I also think of the distances between us, and of how different Christmas can look from one year to the next.
We cannot always gather everyone around one table. We cannot make every relationship uncomplicated or every day joyful. But we can let someone know that they have a place in our thoughts and in our lives.
Presence can be a visit. It can be a call without rushing towards its end. It can be listening without preparing our answer, remembering a small detail, or making room for someone whose day feels quieter than ours.
It does not have to look like a perfect Christmas photograph.
For me, the warmth is in the ordinary things: a real tree, familiar voices, something simple on the table, Cooper nearby, and a little less attention given to the clock.
These moments do not need to prove anything. They are valuable because we share them.
If you are celebrating, I wish you warmth and good company. If this season is difficult, I wish you kindness and space to experience it in your own way.
And to the people who bring care, humour and understanding into my life: thank you.
Presence is a gift. May we give it generously, in the ways we can.
